Think you have the flu? Think again…

The US hospitalization rates have increased at an alarming rate this year due to the flu. However, if you are feeling ill and you test negative for the flu it could be an Adenovirus.  Adenoviruses can cause a wide range of illnesses and although it can sometimes appear to be Influenza-like symptoms there are differences between the two.

Influenza symptoms Include:

Fever or Chills (although not all the time)
Cough
Sore throat
Body aches
Headaches
Fatigue

Adenoviruses Symptoms include:

Fever or Chills (although not all the time)
Cough
Sore throat
Body aches
Headaches
Fatigue
Conjunctivitis
Diarrhea
Bladder infection
Gastroenteritis
Pneumonia

Both Adenovirus and The Influenza virus can be spread from close personal contact, through the air, and by touching any object that has been infected by someone with either virus.  Currently Adenoviruses have no vaccination available to the public. The only vaccination available is for Military personnel. Influenza treatment can vary dependent on your symptoms. Although home remedies are popular you may want to take a trip to the doctor for some testing.

Here at Move Well MD we would like to recommend some preventive measures. We recommend that you wash your hands often, avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands, avoid close contact with people who are sick, and stay home when you are sick.
